Playing offline

Solo practice, games against the computer, the daily puzzles, the lessons and your career statistics work without an internet connection and send nothing. Your games, notes and settings are stored only on your device. You can delete your saved games at any time in Settings, under "Your saved games", or by uninstalling the app.

If you choose Share, the app makes a picture on your phone and hands it to the sharing menu you pick; the app sends nothing itself. "Send my games to the developer" works the same way: it only prepares a file for the sharing menu, and you decide whether and to whom to send it.

Playing online (optional)

You can use the app without ever playing online. If you choose to play online, the app sends the following to our service (Google Firebase, hosted in Europe):

This is used only to run online play: to show your name and picture to the players you play, to tell them whose turn it is, to check that games and scores are real and to send you notifications. There is no chat and no free text except the name you choose; players can send each other a few fixed reactions.

Who sees it

The other player in a game sees your name, picture, moves and scores. Your name, picture, number of games, average play quality, best play quality and best score also appear on public boards that every online player can see. You can switch this off at any time in the app (Progress, Global, "Show me on the boards"); your lines on the boards are then deleted. We do not sell or share this data for advertising, and the app contains no advertising and no analytics.

Game suggestions

When you ask for a random opponent and nobody is waiting, we may invite another player on your behalf: they receive a game request showing your online name and level and can accept or decline. To choose whom to invite we use the day a player last opened Play online and their level. You can switch off receiving such invitations at any time on your online profile page ("Suggest me as an opponent to other players"); friends can still invite you.

Invite links

If you open an invite link, or install the app from one, the app reads the player code in the link (and, after an install from Google Play, the referrer text Google Play keeps for the install) once, to show you the player who invited you. Nothing else is read.

How long we keep it

A game and its moves are deleted 30 days after it ends. Your profile, record and board lines are kept until you delete them, or until 12 months after you last opened Play online, when they are deleted automatically. Games sent for checking are kept until you delete your online data.

Deleting your online data

In the app: Settings, "Delete my online data". This removes your online profile, record, board lines and games from the service, and your anonymous sign-in. If you no longer have the app, see the deletion page. Uninstalling the app does not delete your online data. Your saved games on your own device are not on the service and stay until you delete them.

Permissions

The app asks for internet access (online play only) and, if you agree, to show notifications. It uses vibration (optional, switch off in Settings) and, through Google Play's purchase component, the ability to see whether the phone is online. The optional Pro unlock is a one-time purchase handled entirely by Google Play: the app never sees your payment details; it only learns from Google Play whether Pro has been bought.

Children

The app is not directed to children.
